Simone Schenkel of Gruen Eco Design & Gruen Architecture has been named as a finalist for the AusMumpreneur Awards in the Sustainabilty category.
The AusMumpreneur Awards presented by The Women’s Business School celebrate and recognize Australian Mums in business achieving outstanding success in areas such as business excellence, product development, customer service and digital innovation. The awards are designed to recognize the growing number of women who successfully balance motherhood and business in a way that suits their life and family.
Simone Schenkel grew up and studied architecture in Germany, the home of the PassivHaus movement. On moving to Australia in 2007 she couldn’t believe how thermally uncomfortable Australian houses were. She felt it was her mission to educate people about the benefits of the German way of designing and building homes.
At Gruen Eco Design we provide a service where we work with the clients, nurture and help them through what can be the confusing and daunting process of making their dream home become a reality. Once you have looked into passive house, there is no turning back.
We believe everyone should have the right to live in a healthy and sustainable home and our mission is to make energy efficient homes a staple in the Australian landscape.
We design beautiful, Energy Efficient, Sustainable & Healthy Homes for future generations that don’t cost the earth.
Leaving the world, a better place for our children one house at a time.
Simone is delighted to be named as a finalist and is proud of her achievements, particularly about our recent accomplishment of completing the Hempcrete Passivhaus, which aims to become the world’s first certified hempcrete passive house. Furthermore, we are currently engaged in our most exciting project to date—an innovative co-housing development for older women. Consisting of 32 units, this project offers a mix of one and two-bedroom prefabricated passive house units. With a combination of owner-occupier and social housing, we are dedicated to creating a sustainable and inclusive community for our clients.
There are many benefits to balancing business and motherhood as Simone explains, “Being a mumpreneur is a fulfilling and rewarding journey for me. It allows me to combine my passion for helping others live a more sustainable life with the flexibility to shape my schedule around my family and two beautiful girls”.
It can be challenging to be a successful business woman whilst raising a family and Simone gives this advice for others thinking about starting their own enterprise. ”In my business journey, I’ve learned the utmost importance of resilience. When faced with challenges, we must persevere to overcome and succeed.”.
