Answering the question, “How long will it take to get a Town Planning Permit?” is not an easy thing to do.
There are a number of different steps involved, along with many different variables. Every property comes with its own unique set of challenges. Every municipality has its own interpretation of the Overlays and Zoning.
In fact, every Council has its own planning scheme which contains its own versions of these. The planning scheme governs the types of development which are to be allowed in different areas within the local authorities borders. Even in one street different street numbers can have different rules.
In other words, your town planning journey may look entirely different, even to that of your neighbour down the street . This may also mean your application will have a vastly different time frame.
Also, rules can change over time. So, there might be a project under construction in your street now. That was approved several years ago. And would now not be allowed anymore.
More about council time frames in my next post. And how ‘quickly’ it can go if all goes well.
Which it barely ever does….
Did you have to go through town planning with your house?
And if so, how long did it take you?
