Social Housing - Passive House Pilot Project

The project aims to deliver affordable passive house social housing without extra costs, providing amenity, comfort, and lower energy bills to those vulnerable to rising energy expenses. GRUEN joined during the Working Drawing stage to adjust the existing permit for passive house certification. Close collaboration with the builder, helped troubleshoot supply, buildability, and compliance issues early on. Leveraging our experience in passive house construction, Gruen adapted construction details to meet industry standards familiar to builders, keeping costs down while maintaining quality. Achieving passive house certification presented a challenge due to the project’s modest size, but Gruen readily embraced the opportunity to not only demonstrate that it was possible, but cost efficient.
