Just when we Melbournians thought we were through the worst of it and life was resembling some kind of normal, we find ourselves back in lockdown 2.0.
Our Gruen Team had just started back 2 days per week in the office and now we are all working from home again…
After an initial shock we are starting to settle into our new routines. Back to home schooling and zoom catch ups with our friends…
There isn’t much we can do about it, so we must make the best out of this situation. At least we’ve done it before. So, we know we can do it.
We have had a busy few months. At first, we had to get used to our new working from home environment. And we had to set up our team for the changed circumstances. We also had to adapt and change some of our systems and procedures.
Throw some home schooling into the mix and life got pretty hectic. Many late nights and weekends catching up on work. Making sure everything was working as it used to. And that we had enough work and money for our team through these challenging times.
So, in short, there was no time at all to work on our own passive house ;-(.
Having said this, there has been at least some movement in the background.
- The building surveyor is happy with all the plans and the documentation.
- Our finance is approved.
But we are still waiting on the final builders’ quote. Due to Covid this process has been dragging out a long time.
Also, getting finance approved from the bank took about 8 weeks. Due to the increased demand from people who have to defer their mortgages and so on.
On top of this, we are considering what we can omit from the builders’ quote to reduce the build cost.
We are currently considering building the studio to lock up stage only. And then we will finish it ourselves. We are also considering what other things we can do ourselves. Will talk more about that in another blog post.
We are still determined to start construction this year. It is the 20/20 House after all. And even though we won’t manage to move in this year. At least we will start the construction.
